Dear Editor,
Please be informed that while I respect the office of a State Senator, I do not respect Senator Kirkmeyer and her belief that she has to cut programs that actually help people with mental health problems. For whatever reason, Senator Kirkmeyer is unwilling to work outside of the box to address the budget shortfall issues that Colorado is facing.
Mental health challenges are on the rise and, as a society, we must address these problems, not ignore them and cut programs that provide people with the services they need. For the time being, I object to the program cuts Senator Kirkmeyer is proposing in order to make the budget proposal from the Governor.
There are many needs to address. Senator Kirkmeyer cannot be trusted to properly address these problems because she represents big business, including the oil and gas industry. Therefore, she will not draft appropriate legislation. She only wants to represent the interests of big business and wealthy people.
If you care about people with mental health issues who can’t afford treatment, unhoused people who have mental health issues and the safety of our children in school, then I highly recommend you email the Governor and the majority leaders of the State Senate and State House, to voice your concerns about Senator Kirkmeyer wanting to cut programs that actually help people.
